The Curly End Add-On: Longer, Fuller Curly Ends for Your Existing Locs 🌱
Already loc'd but dreaming of longer, fuller curly ends? Whether you're looking to restore lost length, enhance your existing curls, or introduce curly ends to your locs for the very first time, the Curly End Add-On may be just what you're looking for.
At Works by Paige, I believe your loc journey should continue evolving with you. As your locs mature, your preferences, hair goals, and styling needs may change, and that's perfectly okay!
The Curly End Add-On (with extension hair) is a service designed for individuals with existing locs who want to enhance the length, fullness, and overall appearance of their curly ends.
Whether your locs are completely natural or already contain extensions, this service offers an opportunity to customize your look while maintaining the integrity of your existing locs.
What Is the Curly End Add-On?
The Curly End Add-On involves incorporating additional curly hair into the ends of your existing locs to create a longer, fuller, or more defined curly-end appearance.
Unlike starting an entirely new set of locs, this service focuses specifically on enhancing what you already have.
Depending on your current loc structure, hair condition, and desired outcome, the add-on can help you achieve:
Additional length: Extend the appearance of your locs + curly ends without waiting for your natural hair to grow.
Increased fullness: Create fuller, more voluminous curly ends.
A different curl pattern: Change or enhance the texture and appearance of your existing curly ends.
Curly ends for the first time: Introduce curly ends to locs that previously had fully loc'd ends.
A refreshed appearance
The goal is to create a beautiful, cohesive result that complements your existing locs while aligning with your personal hair goals.
Who Is This Service For?
One of the things I love most about the Curly End Add-On is its versatility.
This service may be a great option if:
You've lost length or fullness in your curly ends.
Over time, inconsistent detangling and maintenance can contribute to tangling, matting, breakage, and poor length retention.
If your curly ends have become shorter or less full than they once were, adding hair may help restore the appearance of length and volume.
You want longer, fuller curly ends.
You don't necessarily need to experience damage or length loss to benefit from this service. Sometimes, you simply want a fuller look or a little extra length!
You want to change your curl pattern.
If your current curly ends no longer reflect the texture or appearance you're hoping to achieve, the Curly End Add-On may offer an opportunity to introduce a different curl pattern.
You've never had curly ends before.
Already have locs but wish you'd started your journey with curly ends? Depending on your loc structure and condition, it may be possible to incorporate curly ends into your existing locs.
You already have loc extensions.
This service isn't limited to individuals with fully natural locs. Clients with existing extensions may also be candidates for additional curly-end enhancements.
When Is the Right Time to Add Curly Ends?
For clients who started their journey with my Extended 2 Strand Starter Loc Method™ or with Traditional Starter Locs,
I generally recommend waiting until your locs have progressed beyond the early transition phase before considering additional curly-end enhancements.
For many clients, this is typically around 7–9 months loc'd or later.
Why wait?
During the early stages of your loc journey, your hair is still transitioning, developing its structure, and beginning to establish a foundation.
Allowing your locs time to develop before introducing additional hair can help us make more informed decisions about the amount of hair being added, how it will be incorporated, and whether your locs are ready for the service.
It's important to remember that loc maturity varies from person to person. The 7–9 month timeframe is a general recommendation, not an automatic indication of readiness.
Your loc structure, density, condition, and overall development will ultimately determine whether the service is appropriate.
Real Loc Journeys: Curly End Add-On Transformations 🌱
Every loc journey is different, and so is every curly-end transformation!
Here are three examples of clients who received the Curly End Add-On at different stages of their loc journeys.
Ryane | 1 Year & 1 Month Loc'd
Before & After the Curly End Add-On
At 1 year and 1 month into her loc journey, Ryane received the Curly End Add-On.
Her before-and-after photos offer a visual look at her locs prior to the service and following the addition of curly hair.
This transformation highlights how curly-end enhancements can become part of an existing loc journey without having to start over.
Tye | 1 Year & 1 Month Loc'd
Curly End Add-On Transformation
Tye received the Curly End Add-On at 1 year and 1 month loc'd.
Her results offer another example of how clients can explore additional length, fullness, and customization after their locs have had time to develop.
Arianna | 7 Months Loc'd
Curly End Add-On Transformation
Arianna received her Curly End Add-On at 7 months into her loc journey.
Her experience demonstrates that some clients may be ready to explore this service earlier than others, depending on the development and condition of their locs.
While seven months may be an appropriate timeframe for one client, another may benefit from waiting longer.
The condition and readiness of your locs will always take priority over the number of months you've been loc'd.
Maintaining Your Curly Ends After the Add-On
One of the most important things I want clients to understand is that adding curly ends does not eliminate the need to maintain them.
Whether your curly ends are natural, enhanced with additional hair, or a combination of both, consistent maintenance is essential to preserving their appearance and manageability.
Curly ends are exposed to everyday friction from clothing, bonnets, headscarves, and regular movement. Over time, this can cause curls to intertwine, develop knots, and become increasingly difficult to separate.
Without proper care, excessive tangling and matting can contribute to breakage and a loss of length or fullness.
To help preserve your results, I recommend:
Consistent detangling: Keep your curly ends separated and manageable rather than allowing tangles to accumulate.
Gentle handling: Avoid excessive pulling, tension, and unnecessary manipulation.
Proper cleansing and conditioning: Follow a care routine appropriate for your locs and the added hair.
Routine maintenance: Stay consistent with your recommended maintenance appointments.
Monitoring your ends: Pay attention to changes in fullness, tangling, shedding, or overall manageability.
Your specific maintenance routine may vary depending on the hair used, your loc structure, and the condition of your existing ends.
Remember, the goal isn't simply to achieve longer, fuller curly ends on installation day.
It's to preserve their appearance and condition long after your appointment.
Is the Curly End Add-On Right for You?
Although this service offers a variety of possibilities, it isn't necessarily the right choice for every set of locs.
Before moving forward, it's important to evaluate your current loc structure, the condition of your hair, your desired curl pattern, and the amount of additional hair needed to achieve your goals.
For clients experiencing significant tangling, matting, breakage, or weakened locs, additional preparation or corrective maintenance may be recommended before adding more hair.
Adding length and fullness should never come at the expense of your locs' long-term health.
At Works by Paige, my approach is to prioritize healthy loc development, intentional enhancements, and realistic maintenance expectations.
